Did you know that salons across North America throw away approximately 500,000 pounds of waste each day? We chose to be part of a movement to reduce waste in our salon by committing to green practices. With the help of Green Circle Salons and intentional practices, we have figured out a way to reduce nearly all of our waste at Raw Hair Society.
All the hair trimmings we collect are made into hair booms for oil spill clean up. Also, there is development for a sustainable bio-composite plastic bin! We hope to be collecting our left over chemicals in these bins in the future.
We collect all of our left over hair color instead of rinsing our chemicals down the drain. We are keeping our water clean while our waste is injected back into local power grids to create clean energy.
Our used foils and color tubes are cleaned and repurposed into materials for commercial use such as bicycles.
We now safely store and recycle all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) use in our salon. This includes used masks, sanitizer wipes, paper towels, and gloves.
